ՑԵՂԱՍՊԱՆԱԳԷՏ ՎԱՀԱԳՆ ՏԱՏՐԵԱՆԻ

            Կիրակի, Օգոստոս 13, 2023ին, Պոլսահայ Միութեան կեդրոնին մէջ տեղի ունեցաւ յուշ երեկոյ եւ հոգեհանգիստ, հանգուցեալ Ցեղասպանագէտ Փրօֆ. Վահագն Տատրեանի մահուան չորրորդ տարելիցին առթիւ, մասնակցութեամբ Արարատ Տան էսքիճեան Թանգարանի, «Նոր Սերունդ», «Համազգային», «Իրանահայ», «Իրաքահայ» միութիւններու, Ազգային Հայկական ուսումնասիրութիւններու եւ հետազօտութիւններու ընկերակցութեան (NAASR), «Խոստում» Հայկական Հիմնարկի» (PAI) եւ «Թէքէեան» մշակութային միութեան:

          Երեկոն սկսաւ տուտուկահար Ալպըրթ Վարդանեանի մելանոյշ մեղեդիներով:

          Բացման խօսքը կատարեց կրթական մշակ Տկ. Ռոզալին Մատոյեան, որ ներկաները ողջունելէ ետք, հրաւիրեց բոլորը յոտնկայս վայրկեան մը յարգանքի տուրք մատուցանելու հանգուցեալ Փրօֆ. Տատրեանի ի յիշատակ, ապա հրաւիրեց Հոգեւորականաց դասը՝ առաջնորդութեամբ Հիւսիսային Ամերիկայի Արեւմտեան Թեմի առաջնորդ՝ Գերշ. Յովնան Արք. Տէրտէրեանի ներկայացուցիչ՝ Զաւէն Քհնյ. Մարկոսեանի ինչպէս նաեւ Թորգոմ Եպսկ. Տոնոյեանի ներկայացուցիչ՝ Տ. Ղեւոնդ Քհնյ. Քիրազեանի, հոգեհանգստեան պաշտօն կատարելու եւ օրհնելու յիշատակի համար պատրաստուած հրուշակն ու պտղաբերման խորհրդանիշ՝ խաղողը տրուած ըլլալով որ այդ օր կը զուգադիպէր Ս. Աստուածածնայ վերափոխման տօնին:  

          Ներկայ էին  Քոյր Միութիւններու ներկայացուցիչներ, Պոլսահայ Միութեան վարչականներ, Փրօֆ. Թանէր Աքչամ եւ այլ հիւրեր:

            Երգուեցաւ Տէրունական աղօթքը, որմէ ետք օրուան հանդիսավարուհին իր խօսքին մէջ բարի գալուստի մաղթանքէ վերջ շեշտեց թէ «Այսօր բոլորս հաւաքուած ենք հոս յարգանքի տուրք մատուցելու զոր Վահագն Տատրեանը թողած է իր կտակը Հայոց ցեղասպանութեան ուսումնասիրութեան մէջ: Բայց մենք նաև այստեղ ենք ճանաչելու եւս անհատ մը, որ շարունակած է Հոլոքոսթի և Ցեղասպանութեան այս անգնահատելի աշխատանքը: Ուստի, ինծի համար առանձնայատուկ հաճոյք է կիսուիլ և տօնել Փրօֆ. Մայքլ Պէյզլըրը, որ այսօր երեկոյան կը պարգեւատրուի գիտնական Ցեղասպանութեան մրցանակով»։

          Ապա ընթերցեց առաջին զեկուցող՝ Արարատ Տան Էսքիճեան Թանգարանի տնօրէնուհի՝ Մէկի Մանկասարեան Կօշինի հակիրճ կենսագրականը եւ ամպիոն հրաւիրեց զայն:

          Տկ. Կօշինը խօսեցաւ իր ծանօթութեան մասին հանգուցեալ Փրօֆ. Վահագն Տատրեանի հետ եւ անոր ներկայացուցած դասախօսութիւնը Արարատ Էսքիճեան թանգարանին մէջ. ան յայտարարեց, որ մենք չենք կրնար պատկերացնել այն ​​հոյակապ աշխատանքը, որ մեզ կը սպասէր։ Ան ճամբորդեց դէպի Տատրեանի տունը Ուորչեսթըր՝ 70 տարուան հին շէնքի մը մէջ: Ան տեսաւ անոր գրադարանը և հմայուեցաւ: Ան ստացաւ  իր արխիւները և գրքերը, եւ համաձայնեցաւ USC-ի հետ՝ կայքի մշակման համար: Ամէն տարի կ՛երթային աւելի շատ արխիւներ բերելու, երբ Տատրեանի առողջական վիճակը սկսած էր վատանալ, Մէկին կապ հաստատած էր տանտիրոջ հետ և պայմանաւորուած, մինչև ան կրցաւ ըլլալ արխիւի պաշտօնական սեփականատէրը։ Փրօֆ. Թանէր Աքչամը ղեկավարեց իրեն և 13 տարի անց երիտասարդ ուսանողներու և կամաւորներու օգնութեամբ անոնք կարողացան վերջնական ձեւի բերել արխիւները:  Մէկին կը շարունակէ այս նախագիծը, քանի դեռ ան հասանելի կ՛ըլլայ կայքէջի վրայ:

          Երկրորդ զեկուցող՝ Փրօֆ. Թանէր Աքչամ հրաւիրուեցաւ  եւ  յայտարարեց, թէ իսկապէս գանձ է այն, ինչ որ ունինք այստեղ և շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց տկն. Կօշինին, Վահագն Տատրեանին ցուցաբերած օգնութեան և աջակցութեան և հայագիտութեան մէջ անոր ունեցած աւանդին համար։ Աքչամ յայտնեց թէ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութիւնը արդէն մոռցուած Ցեղասպանութիւն է. եւ երբեք վերջինը, այստեղ ճանապարհը հեշտ չէ եղած և հարթուած է բազմաթիւ մարդկանց ջանքերով ու զոհաբերութեամբ։ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութիւնը անցած է նոյն փուլերով, ինչպէս միւս ոլորտները։ Փորձագէտներ՝ Արամ Անտոնեանի և Գրիգոր Կերկերեանի նման վերապրածներն էին որոնք փորձեցին հաւաքել Օսմանեան արժէքաւոր փաստաթուղթերու գոյատևման համակարգուած յուշագրութիւնները և արխիւային փաստաթուղթերը:

          Վահագն Տատրեանի խօսքերը կը ներկայացնեն Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան հետազօտութեան ոլորտի իրական հիմքը և կամուրջը հին աշխարհի և նորի միջեւ: Այս անուանակարգին մէջ Փրօֆ. Աքչամ դասեց նաև Փրօֆ. Րիչըրտ Յովաննիսեանի բազմահատոր աշխատութիւնը: Եթէ ​​մենք կարող ենք խօսիլ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան հետազօտութեան տաղանդաւոր փուլի մասին, ապա Վահագն Տատրեանն ու Րիչըրտ Յովաննիսեանը ծառայեցին որպէս սառցաբեկորներ՝ ճանապարհ հարթելով դէպի անտեղեակութեան, անտարբերութեան և ժխտման սառած ծովուն: Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան ուսումնասիրութիւնը մեծապէս յառաջադիմած է այսքանով` շնորհիւ անոր վաղ ռահվիրաներու տասնամեակներ տեւած անխոնջ ջանքերուն: Վահագն Տատրեան և Րիչըրտ Յովաննիսեան մենք ձեզ երախտագիտութեան անսահման քայլ պարտական ենք։ Ան նաեւ յայտարարեց, որ Փրօֆ. Վահագն Տատրեանի եւ Փրօֆ. Յովաննիսեանի կորուստը պարզապէս հարուած չէ ակադեմական դաշտին. Անոնք երկուքն ալ իսկական հսկաներ էին, հիմնադիրներ, ներկայացուցիչներ և կրողներ  ամբողջ դարաշրջանի մը: Անոնց մահով այս դարաշրջանը մօտեցաւ վճռական աւարտին, և դարաշրջանը աւարտեցաւ։ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան ճանաչումը ձեռք  բերուած է. Այդ այժմ փաստ է։ Ի՞նչ պիտի ըլլայ ասկէ յետոյ։ Այս 2 հսկաները պայքարեցան ճանաչման համար, անոնք մահացան, և ի՞նչ է յաջորդը: Սա իսկապէս մեծ հարց է։ Այս պահուն Վահագն Տատրեանի պարգեւատրումը Փրօֆ. Մայքըլ Պէյզլըրի աւելի իմաստալից կը դառնայ: Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան ուսումնասիրութիւնը կը  թեւակոխէ նոր փուլ. Անոնցմէ մէկն ալ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան վերականգնման գործընթացի յառաջխաղացումն է: Փրօֆ. Պէյզլըր այս փուլին ամենանշանակալի ներկայացուցիչներէն է։ Անոր արժէքաւոր ջանքերը Հոլոքոսթի վերականգնման և բազմաթիւ ճանապարհներու փոփոխման գործին մէջ իրեն վաստակած են նշանաւոր տեղ այս քարոզարշաւին մէջ: Ան կը շարունակէ Գալիֆորնիայի Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան հետ կապուած շարունակական կենսական դերակատարութիւն ունենալ իր գաղափարներով և գործողութիւններով: Փրօֆ. Աքչամ իր շնորհաւորանքները յայտնեց այս լաւապէս արժանացած ճանաչման համար և յոյս ու վստահութիւն՝ միասին ապագային աւելի մեծ գործերու համար:

          Հանդիսավարուհին հրաւիրեց տուտուկահարը որ նուագեց «Պինկէօլ» եւ «Ատանայի Ողբ»ը:

          Երրորդ բանախօսն էր դատաւոր Զաւէն Սինանեանը, որ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց կազմակերպութեանը՝ որ իրեն առիթ ընծայեց ներկայացնելու Փրօֆ. Մայքըլ Պէյզլըրը այսօր. Ան նշեց իր կապը Փրօֆ. Պէյզլըրի հետ, երբ հանգուցեալ Փրօֆ. Ռիչըրտ Յովաննիսեանը 2016թ.-ին, բանախօս էր, Փրօֆ. Պէյզլըրը Գալիֆորնիայի կեդրոնական շրջանի միջազգային գործի համար ԱՄՆ շրջանային դատարանի 50-ամեակին նուիրուած համագումարի ժամանակ, ուր իրենք երկուքն ալ բանախօսներ էին: Դատաւոր Սինանեանը հիացած էր իրմով, որ ան ստանձնած էր Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան հատուցման եւ փոխհատուցման պարտաւորութիւնները՝ հետևելով Փրօֆ. Յովաննիսեան և Փրօֆ. Տատրեանի այս ասպարէզին մէջ։ Դատաւոր Սինանեանը կարդաց Փրօֆ. Պէյզլըրի մանրամասն կենսագրութիւնն ու ձեռքբերումները, ուր կը նշուի, որ ան թալանուած հայկական արուեստի յառաջամարտիկն է, և մենք երախտապարտ ենք, որ ան տարած  է Հայոց Ցեղասպանութիւնեան ասպարէզը՝ զայն աւելի բարձր մակարդակի հասցնելու համար։ Իր խօսքէն ետք ան հրաւիրեց Փրօֆ. Պէյզլըրը իր մրցանակը ստանալու համար։

          Ժամը հասաւ մետալի տուչութեան, հրաւիրուեցան, Միութեան Գործադիր Յանձնախումբի ատենապետ՝ Տոքթ. Մուրատ Քէօշքէր, Հոգաբարձու եւ Մշակութային Յանձնախումբի ատենապետ՝ Տոքթ. Յովհաննէս Գուլակ Աւետիքեան, Գործադիր Յանձնախումբի ատենադպիր՝ Պր. Սերժ Պուլանըքեան եւ Մշակութային Յանձնախումբի փոխ ատենապետ՝ Պրն. Կարպիս Սարաֆեան որպէսզի կատարեն մետալի տուչութիւնը:

             Խօսք առաւ  Տոքթ. Մուրատ Քէօշքէր նշելով թէ «Մեծ հաճոյքով այս շքանշանը կը շնորհենք ականաւոր ցեղասպանագէտ Փրօֆ. ՄԱՅՔԸԼ ՊԷՅԶԼԸՐը՝ Հոլոքոսթի և Մարդկային Իրաւունքներու Ուսումնասիրութեան ոլորտին մէջ իր կատարած աշխատանքին համար: Մենք կը մեծարենք իրեն և կը պարգեւատրենք զինք տարեկան «2023 ՑԵՂԱՍՊԱՆՈՒԹԵԱՆ ԳԻՏՆԱԿԱՆ ՄՐՑԱՆԱԿով»։

          Փրօֆ. Պէյզլըր շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց Պոլսահայ Միութեան իրեն ընծայուած այս պատուին համար, ինչպէս նաև նախորդ բանախօսներու ելոյթներուն համար: Ան յայտարարեց, որ տեղեակ չէ, թէ ի՞նչ կատարուած էր  հայ ժողովուրդին հանդէպ։ Երբ ան ունկնդրած է Փրօֆ. Ռիչըրտ Յովաննիսեանը ներկայացման ժամանակ և որպէս պատմութեան ուսանող նայած և առաջին անգամ տեղեկացած այդ մասին։ Ինչպէս Հոլոքոսթը, այնպէս ալ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութիւնը պատմութիւն է։

          Ան նշեց, որ աշակերտներուն մէջ որոշակի եռանդ կայ, երբ դասաւանդութիւններէ յետոյ կը խօսի իրենց հետ, և անոնք կը խօսին իր հետ անոնց նախնիներու հետ կատարուածէն յետոյ, դուն այդ կը զգաս որ իրենք դեռ այնտեղ են: Զարմանալի է տեսնել, որ հայ սերունդը այդ իր հետ կը տանի, և այդ շատ կարևոր է, քանի որ ատիկա իրենց ինքնութիւնն է: Եւ ան որպէս Փրօֆէսըր և ուսուցիչ ուրախ է շարունակելու և դասաւանդելու այդ կրթութիւնը։

          Այդ իրօք կը վերագրուի մարդկանց, որպէսզի այդ շնորհանդէսը ներկայացուի 1970 թուականին UCLA-ի մէջ և շարունակուեցաւ տարուէ տարի պատմութիւնը պատմելու ոչ թէ իրենց երեխաներուն եւ թոռներուն, այլ ընդհանուր ժողովուրդին, և մենք բոլորս կը շարունակենք այդ առաքելութիւնը: Մենք կը հասկնանք, որ որքան կարևոր է, որ այդ տեղի չունենայ։ Ինքնիշխանութիւնը կարելի չէ պատկերացնել, քանի որ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան իրաւունքը զանգուածային յանցագործութիւն չէր, այլ զանգուածային գողութիւն։ Մարդկանց ոչ միայն սպանեցին, այլ՝ թալանեցին անոնց ունեցուածքը։

          Հայկական թալանուած արուեստը, Հոլոքոսթը այն փաստերէն մէկն է, որ ինծի հետաքրքրեց, հրեաներէն և հաստատութիւններէն գողցուածը արուեստի գողութիւնն էր: Եթէ ​​ուսանողները կարող են գալ, անոնք պէտք է հաշւետուութիւն ներկայացնեն նախորդ շաբթուան ընթացքին իրենց ըրածին մասին, և այս ուսանողները իրաւաբանութեան և արուեստի ուսանողներ են և, ինչպէս կը տեսնէք, անոնք կը կրեն այս ժառանգութիւնը սերունդէ սերունդ և նաև ոչ հայ ուսանողներ, որոնք կը զգան այս կատարուածը. Սա անհրաժեշտ է, և հետևաբար մենք կը թողարկենք Հայկական թալանուած Արուեստի նախագիծը, որը կը շարունակուի  և առանց ձեր կազմակերպութեան աջակցութեան այս միջոցառումը չէր իրականանար:

          Շնորհաւորանքներով եւ աղօթքով ու Պոլսահայ Միութեան հանդէպ գնահատանքի խօսքերով փակուեցաւ գիշերը:

          Ձեռնարկի աւարտին տեղի ունեցաւ խմբային լուսանկարչական պահ, որուն յաջորդեց պատշաճ հիւրասիրութիւն, ուր ներկաները իրար հետ ունեցան մտերմիկ զրոյցի պահեր:

          Նշենք թէ Նիւ Եորքի մէջ մահացած Միջազգային հեղինակութիւն վայելող Փրօֆ. Վահագն Տատրեանի աճիւնը տեղափոխուած է Հայաստանի Հանրապետութիւն:

COMMEMORATION OF

PROF. VAHAKN DADRIAN’S FOURTH ANNIVERSARY

 OF HIS PASSING

AT THE ORGANIZATION OF ISTANBUL ARMENIANS CENTER

               On Sunday, August 13, 2022, at the Organization of Istanbul Armenians center, an evening of memorial service was held for late Prof.  Vahakn Dadrian, on the occasion of the 4th year of his passing, with the participation of Ararat Eskijian Museum, “Nor Serount”, “Hamazkayin”, “Irani Armenian”, “Iraqi Armenian” associations, the National Armenian Studies and Research Association (NAASR), Promise “Khosdum” Armenian Institute (PAI) and “Tekeyan” cultural association.

          The evening started with the melancholic tunes of duduk player Albert Vartanyan.

          The opening remarks were delivered by Mrs. Rozalin Madoyan. After welcoming the attendees, she stated that as a community we have gathered collectively today to honor and pay tribute to the legacy Prof. Vahakn Dadrian left behind in the study and research of the Armenian Genocide. But we are also here to recognize another individual who has continued this invaluable work of holocaust and genocide. Therefore, it is my distinct pleasure to share and celebrate the achievements and talents of Prof. Michael Bazyler who will be awarded with the scholar Genocide award tonight. She invited the Clergymen Rev. Fr. Kirazian and Rev. Fr. Margossian, to perform the requiem ceremony and the blessing of the “Hroushag” and grapes.

          Present were representatives of Sister Organizations, administrators of OIA, Prof. Taner Akcam and other guests.

          The MC read the first speaker’s biograpy, Ararat Eskijian museum’s long time Director Mrs. Maggi Mangassarian-Goschin, and invited her to the podium.

          Mrs. Goschin talked about her acquaintance with late Prof. Vahakn Dadrian and his lecture at the Ararat Eskijian museum. She declared that we did not imagine the monumental work which was expecting us. She travelled to Dadrian’s house in Worchester a 70 year’s old building. She saw his library and was enchanted. She got his archives and books talked with USC to have a development of a website. Every year they went to bring more archives, when Dadrian’s health started to deteriorate she contacted the landlord and made an agreement until she was able to be the official possessor of the archives. Prof. Taner Akcam directed her and after 13 years, they were able to finalize the archives with the help of young students and volunteers. She continues this project until it will be available on the website.

          Prof. Akcam was invited to the podium who stated that it’s a really treasure what we have here and thanked Mrs. Goschin for her help and support to Vahakn Dadrian and his contributions to the Armenian Studies.  The Armenian Genocide is already a forgotten Genocide. And never the last, the path here has not been easy and has been paved by the efforts and sacrifices of many people. The Armenian Genocide went through the same stages as other fields. It was the experts, the survivors like Aram Andonian and Krikor Gergerian, who tried to systematically collect the surviving memoirs and archival documents of valuable Ottoman documents.

          Vahakn Dadrian and Prof. Richard Hovannisian  represent the true foundation of the field of Armenian Genocide research and the bridge between the old world and the new. In this category Prof. Akcam also qualified Prof. Richard Hovannisian’s multi-volume work. If we can talk about the talented phase of Armenian Genocide research, Vahakn Dadrian and Richard Hovannisian served as ice breakers, paving the way to the frozen sea of ​​ignorance, indifference and denial. The study of the Armenian Genocide has come this far largely thanks to the decades of tireless efforts of its early pioneers. Vahakn Dadrian and Richard Hovannisian, we owe them an infinite step of gratitude. He stated also that the loss of Prof. Vahakn Dadriand and Prof. Hovannisian is not just a blow to the  academic field. They were both true giants, founders, representatives and bearers of an entire era. With their passing this era has come to a decisive end and the era is over. The acknowledgement of the Armenian genocide has been achieved. It is now a fact. What is to happen next? These 2 giants fought for acknowledgement, they passed away and so what is next? This is really a big question. At this point the award of Vahakn Dadrian to Prof. Michael Bazyler becomes all the more meaningful. The study of the Armenian Genocide is entering a new phase. One of that is witnessing the advance of the Armenian Genocide restitution. Prof. Bazyler is one f the most significant representatives of such a phase. His valuable efforts in the holocaust restitution and altership of many roads have earned him a prominent place in this campaign. He will continue to play a continued vital role related to the Armenian Genocide in California with his ideas and actions. Prof. Akcam expressed his congratulations for this well earned recognition and his hope, confidence for ever greater things in the future together.

          The MC invited the duduk player who played melodies of the “Bingol” and “Adana’s Moan”.

          The third speaker was Judge Zaven Sinanian who thanked the organization for the opportunity to introduce Prof. Michael Bazyler today. He mentioned his connection to Prof. Bazyler which was through the giant late Prof. Richard Hovannisian in 2016 who was the speaker on a panel with Prof. Bazyler at a symposium commemorating 50 years of US District court for the central district of California international case where they both were speakers. Judge Sinanian admired him of his commitments to reparations restitution for the Armenian Genocide following the great work that was done by Prof. Hovannisian and Prof. Dadrian in this field. Judge Sinanian read Prof. Bazyler’s detailed biography and achievements stating that he is a pioneer of looted Armenian art and we are grateful that he has taken the Armenian Genocide to this arena to advance it to a higher level. Following his speech he invited Prof. Bazyler to receive his award.

          The prof. was invited to the podium, as well as the chairman of the Executive Committee of OIA, Dr. Mark Kosker, Dr. Ohannes Kulak Avedikyan, Secretary of the Executive Committee Mr. Serj Bulanikian, OIA Cultural Committee’s vice chairman Garbis Sarafian to perform the medal ceremony. Dr. Mark Kosker  stated that it is a great pleasure to give this medal to an outstanding genocide scholar for his work in Holocaust and Human Right Studies. We honor him and present him the Annual “OUTSTANDING GENOCIDE SCHOLAR AWARD 2023”.

          Prof. Bazyler thanked the OIA for this honor as well as the previous speakers speeches. He declared that he wasn’t aware of what happened to the Armenian people. When he met Prof. Richard Hovannisian during a presentation and as a student of history he looked and for the first time he became aware of that. Just like the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide is also a history.

          He stated that there is a certain energy in the students, when he talks to them after class and they talk to him after what happened to their ancestors, you can feel it and that it is still there that they carry. It is amazing to see that the Armenian generation carry that with them and it is very important because it’s their identity. And he is glad as a professor and teacher to continue and teach that education.

          It’s really attribute to the people so as to put that presentation in 1970 at UCLA and continued year after year to tell the story not to their children and grandchildren but the public at large and all of us continue in that mission. We understand that how important it is for not to happen. Sovereignty cannot be conceived as the right to Armenian Genocide was not a mass crime but a mass theft. The people were not just killed but their possessions were robbed.

          The Armenian looted Art, the holocaust is one of the facts that intrigued me was the theft of the art that was stolen from Jews and institutions. If the students can come, they have to produce a report of what they did in the previous week and these students are law and art students and again as you can see they carry on this legacy from generation to generation and also non Armenian students who feel this is necessary and therefore we put out the Armenian looted Art project which continues and without the support of your organization this event would not be happening.

               The night was closed with congratulations and prayers and words of appreciation for the OIA.

          At the end of the event, memory photographs were taken, followed by a proper reception, where the attendees mingled with each other.

          It should be noted that the internationally renowned Prof. who passed away in New York, his ashes were transferred to the Republic of Armenia.
