We Are Here (USC)

U S C

On April 30, the Institute debuted The Ones Who Stayed, a photography exhibition about the Armenian community of Istanbul.
The product of a collaboration between Institute Managing Director Maral Tavitian and photographer Alexis Pazoumian, the exhibition featured interviews with a diverse group of Istanbul Armenians and images documenting their complex and vibrant reality.
The project was supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s “արդ եւս / in view” Western Armenian Culture Grant Program, and the exhibition was produced with fiscal sponsorship from Los Angeles City Council District 13.

We Are Here

Supported by funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and accompanied by photographer Alexis Pazoumian, I structured my reporting around one question: What does it mean to be an Armenian in Turkey today? I spent hours lost in conversation, absorbing details of my subjects’ lives the way I had taken in my great grandmother’s stories years ago.

Los Angeles’ta İstanbul Ermenilerini anlatan bir sergi: Buradayız

USC Dornsife Ermeni Çalışmaları Enstitüsü, İstanbul’daki Ermeni topluluğu üzerine bir fotoğraf sergisini 30 Nisan’da ziyarete açtı. ‘The Ones Who Stayed’ (‘Kalanlar’) başlıklı sergi 7 Mayıs’ta sona erdi ancak başka merkezlerde açılması için çalışmalar sürüyor. Proje, Enstitü İdari Direktörü Maral Tavitian ve fotoğrafçı Alexis Pazoumian imzasını taşıyor. Tavitian sergi için geldiği İstanbul’dan izlenimlerini kendi aile hikâyesi eşliğinde Agos için kaleme aldı.
